Cyclone 'Shakti' Likely to Form in Bay of Bengal Between May 23–28, Warns Meteorologist
Potential Cyclone 'Shakti' May Form in Bay of Bengal Between May 23–28, Says Meteorologist
Meteorologist Mostofa Kamal Polash has warned of a strong possibility of a cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal between May 23 and 28. In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, Polash noted that the cyclone, if formed, will be named Shakti—a name proposed by Sri Lanka.
He further stated that the system could make landfall between May 24 and 26, potentially affecting areas between India’s Odisha coast and Bangladesh’s Chattogram coast. However, the most likely impact zones appear to be West Bengal and Bangladesh’s Khulna division.
The Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT) has also indicated that a weather circulation may form over the Bay of Bengal between May 16 and 18, which could gradually intensify into a cyclone. Should the system approach Bangladesh, coastal regions could face strong winds, heavy rainfall, and tidal surges.
As of now, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has not issued any official warnings but is closely monitoring the evolving situation.
